A. Decorative Life Size Floating Waterfowl
Open, Intermediate and Novice
This contest is open to all carvers. Using the live bird as the model, carvers are free to create detailed and intricately carved poses, realistically painted. Weight and fragility shall not be critical factors, but the carving should float gracefully and with an appropriate attitude as a final test of excellence. Decoys need not be self righting. Awards: Open Best of Show - Medallion + $75, 2nd Best of Show $50 3rd Best of Show $25 Intermediate & Novice; Best of Show Rosette, Best Marsh, Diver, and Confidence = Rosette.
B. California Waterfowl "Carver of the Year"
This contest is open to all carvers. Carvers will enter a single Drake Pintail, to be judged as a Traditional Hunting Decoy, (see rules for traditional hunting decoys). Paint, however, will be unlimited (IWCA).  The $1000 purchase award goes to the winning carver, and California Ducks Unlimited gets the carving for a statewide fund raiser. The winning carving will be reproduced by CWA. a Cash awards for 2nd and 3rd place are $200 and $100 respectively. No "class" or duplicated birds allowed.
C. Traditional Hunting Decoys, Floating
Decoys are handmade of wood, cork, canvas, or metal. No class or machine duplicated decoys allowed. Carvings are to be designed and made for hunting conditions. No fragile wingtips, bills or tails. No burning or stone texturing; general texturing such as chip carving, rasping or stamping is acceptable. Decoys that take on water or deteriorate in the tank will be disqualified. Decoys must self-right from every position, except geese and swans which must self right from the side. Carvings should float in a lifelike and stable manner. All weights and keels used for self-righting or ballast shall be practical and non-fouling. All decoys must have some facility for anchor line attachment. Paint and finish is to be in the traditional style of practical, simplified patterns. Techniques such as brushing, stippling, ragging, scratching, combing, or other practical method of applying paint is acceptable. The judges are looking for sound workmanship in carving and finish, and for an unmistakable likeness to species. Awards: The $650 purchase award goes to the winning carver, and the carving(s) go to the Sponsor, Best of Show - Plaque, Best of Marsh, Diver, and Confidence = Rosette.

Note: In Traditional Hunting Decoy Classification, we require pairs for Marsh Duck and Diver Duck entries.
